Woman Killed, Suspect Hospitalized After Police Pursuit In Maryland: Sheriff (Developing)

One person is in custody following a fatal shooting in Lexington Park and police pursuit that spilled into Charles County, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies were called to investigate a reported gunshot victim in the 46000 block of Rosewood Drive in St. Mary's County in what was described as an isolated incident in the area.

According to a spokesperson from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, shortly before noon, deputies engaged in a short-lived chase before apprehending a suspect implicated in the shooting.

At 1 p.m. investigators confirmed that a 25-year-old woman was rushed to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the shooting.

The suspect was taken from the scene to an area trauma center with what was described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

His condition was not immediately available.

Officials made note that no shots were fired during the police pursuit.

Police activity was ongoing in the areas of Rosewood Drive in Lexington Park and the 15000 block of Prince Frederick Road in Hughesville.
